Social Networking & Favorite Resources

This week we have learned about social networking which is a new concept to me. I really wish I had known about such a thing when I was a grade manager and trying to set up something similar for my group of eight teachers in fourth grade. I like Diigo and will certainly use it from now on and spread the knowledge.

As far as the assignment, it has been a little tedious finding over 60 sites. However I have come across some great resources in the process. I really, really like the sites that have countless links of games and activities for all subject areas. Specifically, Sheppard Software, and Enchanted Learning are my favorites. These links can be used by teacher, student, or parent. They have activities that are great for interactive white boards that can be displayed by the teacher to enhance lessons, as well as linked from school Intranet sites or a Moodle that can be accessed by the individual learner. I just really like the multi-functionality of these.

  1. Yes, I like Shephard software and Enchanted learning as well. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like DIIGO, but now I'm addicted. I started two other groups in Diigo to organize my sites better and for different purposes. I also thought, how was I going to find 60, but some overlap. Curricula and lessons overlap so it wasn't exactly 60 . I do know that we started a science club and the teachers asked me for suggetions. I immediatley sent them 4 sites that I bookmarked in DIIGO... sooo

  2. The whole social bookmarking thing was new to me also. I really like having access to links from anywhere since teachers so often use multiple computers. I looked at the groups the other day and there are already a lot for education. I like that you can share with other teachers in your school but also outside of the school site. I love Enchanted Learning and all that it has to offer. I agree that the sites with the endless games that are organized by subject are the most useful.

  3. Yes, the social bookmarking was new to me, too. I had some problems with Diigo at first, but then they got fixed. I found some good sites too, and though 60 was a lot, I had some good resources from emails so I had a decent amount to start with. I did like finding neat sites with games.
